Q. What is Youth Parliament of Pakistan?


A. Youth Parliament of Pakistan works to give young people between the age of 15 and 35, an opportunity to unite themselves at one common platform with a vision to contribute in the nation building process and to offer ideas that can bring positive change in their communities and also to work for effective implementation of these ideas at the community level.

It enables young people to be heard and listened to by district, provincial and national governments as an alternate youth perspective on various national and international issues in an apolitical fashion.



Q. Who can be involved in Youth Parliament of Pakistan?


A. Youth Parliament of Pakistan is open to any young person between 15 and 35 years of age and who have Pakistani citizenship. We do have some programs for youth of Pakistani origin living abroad and they have to provide some legal proof of their Pakistani identity.


Q. How did Youth Parliament of Pakistan begin?


A. The idea of Youth Parliament of Pakistan was first launched by Mr. Abrar Ul Haq in 2003 and he started sharing it with youth audience during his various musical concerts in an outside the country and formally launched it during a press conference on 24th January, 2006 in Islamabad. The idea inspired so many young people and organizations at large. Even some of the organization quickly gathered few young people from one town and tried to label them youth parliament. But Mr. Abrar Ul Haq always believed that without the involvement and representation of youth from all towns and villages that reflect real Pakistan, it would be unfair to call it the Parliament of youth of Pakistan.

Before launching the membership campaign the management of YPP had thorough discussions with all the possible stakeholders and they finally completed all the spadework in December 2007 and started the membership campaign in January 2008.


Q. Is there any membership fee to apply for Youth Parliament of Pakistan?


A. NO, the membership to Youth Parliament of Pakistan is absolutely free and we do not charge any kind of fee/dues.


Q. How do you classify your members?


A. You can simply become member of Youth Parliament of Pakistan by filling out the membership form or by registering online at our website www.youthparliament.org.pk. We maintain database of all our members and give them opportunity to be part of our National Youth Assembly and subsequent Provincial and District Youth Assemblies.


Q. What is the selection/election process for National and Provincial Youth Assemblies?


A. Every year Youth Parliament of Pakistan aims to organize Concept Development Workshops with participants from all the districts of Pakistan and AJK like YPP did in year 2008 in 20 selected districts of Pakistan. During the workshops the participants will be assessed against their participation and performance in the workshop and that assessment followed by a telephonic interview will pave the way for their final selection in National Youth Assembly and subsequent youth assemblies.


Q. Is there any deadline to apply for membership of Youth Parliament of Pakistan?


A. No, there is no such deadline to apply to be the member of Youth Parliament of Pakistan that serves as the basic membership of the organization. The management of Youth Parliament of Pakistan normally announces any such deadline that needs to be met before selection/election of the members of National and Provincial Youth Assemblies.


Q. Is Youth Parliament of Pakistan kind of some political program?


A. Not at all, Youth Parliament of Pakistan has no political agenda or ideology to pursue through this program and it’s completely an initiative for empowering young people to work for the betterment of their own communities by acting as responsible active citizens.


Q. What’s the difference between National, Provincial and District Youth Assemblies of Youth Parliament of Pakistan?


A. National Youth Assembly of Youth Parliament of Pakistan works at the federal level with its four sessions a year in Islamabad. National Youth Assembly of YPP comprises of youth parliamentarians from all four provinces of Pakistan, AJK and northern areas.


Youth Parliament of Pakistan has five Provincial Youth Assemblies and 139 District Youth Assemblies.
